Sewer Spill Forces Closure of Beaches in Long Beach
The spill was attributed to a blocked sewer line that was reported to the Compton Public Works Department on Saturday, said Long Beach City Manager Ed Kamlan.
A plugged sewer line in Compton sent sewage spilling into the Los Angeles River, prompting the closure today of all recreational water spots in Long Beach, officials said.
The blocked line was reported to Compton Public Works crews Saturday, Long Beach City Manager Ed Kamian said.
The ban will remain in place until the city's health department deems it safe to swim, said city acting Health Officer Mauro Torno.
