$1 Million Road Work: Update on Broadway Repavement

Councilman Gary DeLong issued this advisory for Belmont Shore drivers who frequent Broadway, which may produce delays from President's Day through month's end.

The $1 million Broadway Repaving project that was supposed to be done by January is behind but moving along, and here is the progress report from Third District Council Member Gary DeLong.

The project involves replacing curbs, gutters and sidewalks as well as repaving the street from Livingston Drive to Termino Avenue; it is not funded by the city, the Grunion Gazette reported last month.

Volunteers and contributions will be necessary to plant the medians that will line the center of the street, Councilman DeLong's office has said. Those interested in contributing to the street median landscaping effort are encouraged to call 570-6300 or send an email to Julie Maleki at Julie.maleki@longbeach.gov.

The updated plan is as follows:

  • Cold milling of the existing street will occur from Monday, Feb. 20th through Friday, Feb. 24th
  • The new rubberized asphalt surface will be installed from Monday, February 27th through Wednesday, February 29th
  • Cat tracking will occur on Wednesday, February 29th
  • Manhole/valve adjustments and final striping are scheduled to be completed by March 15.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding this project, please contact the project inspector at 562/570-5160.

Next up, repaving Livingston Drive between Second Street and Termino Avenue. DeLong said that will, hopefully, be followed by Redondo Avenue between Broadway and Pacific Coast Highway in 2013.
