Navy Week in L.A. Harbor

The public's invited to free ship tours and lots of other events through Sunday.

Patriotism and history are ever-present during Los Angeles’ Navy Week. There's also plenty of modern tech, speakers and personnel from the U.S. Navy who will share its important role and stories of members now serving the United States.

The public is invited to attend free ship tours at the Port of Los Angeles throughout the week. The ships include:

On Monday, July 25, the USS Lincoln made its way to the Port of Los Angeles to kickstart Navy Week. Shortly after, there was a press conference and a speech from a city representative formally announcing the week of festivities.

Sailors on Tuesday helped Habit for Humanity and visited the Childrens Hospital of Orange County and the L.A. Ronald McDonald House.

Today’s events will include a flag raising ceremony initiated by the Boy Scouts and sailors on the USS Lincoln. At 6 p.m., the community is welcome to visit Downtown Disney (in Anaheim) to hear the U.S. Navy Band perform.

On Thursday, July 28, sailors will serve lunch to the homeless at the St. Francis Center. The U.S. Navy Band will later perform at various venues throughout Los Angeles.

On Friday, July 29, Navy Day will be celebrated at the Los Angeles Zoo with over 200 sailors present. Later that evening, the Navy Band is scheduled to perform at the O.C. Fair and the Pacific Amphitheatre.

On Saturday, July 30, Admiral Greenert is expected to throw out the first pitch at Dodger Stadium, after which the Leap Frogs will descend into the stadium.

To end the weeklong tribute, on July 31 the Leap Frogs will perform during Navy Day at Knotts Berry Farm and at the Santa Monica Pier, along with final concerts from the Navy Band at Knotts and the pier. For details, check out http://www.portoflosangeles.org/ or http://www.navyweek.org/
